Giuseppe Geppetto

Giuseppe Geppetto is the inventor of the Puppets. He provides Geppetto's puppet with various upgrades and information on the different locations within Krat.

Background

Geppetto was a renowned engineer and the grandmaster of the Workshop Union. During his tenure he began working with the Alchemists, becoming friends with their leader Valentinus. Geppetto was soon able to create the first Puppets after using the Alchemists research on Ergo. He eventually met and married a Listener named Camille, with the two of them having a son, Carlo.

He and Camille didn't have more children but Geppetto build a puppet named Rosaura to keep Carlo company. After Camille's death, he entered a state of deep depression and left Carlo in the care of the Monad Charity House. Carlo would greatly resent him for this, and after Geppetto failed to come to Carlo's graduation they cut ties completely. Carlo would become a Stalker after graduation and lived with Antonia at Hotel Krat. Carlo, after coming to understand his father's motivations, sought to reconnect with him but had little success. Antonia would write to Geppetto scolding him for not meeting with his son. Geppetto continued to remain distant as he believed Carlo was better off without him in his life. Carlo would eventually die from the Petrification Disease, leaving Geppetto devastated. He attempted to resurrect Carlo by transforming his corpse into a Puppet, though this would fail. Geppetto would keep that Puppet as a weapon while looking into other means of resurrecting Carlo. After hearing of Arlecchino's massacre at the Monad Charity House, Geppetto went over to investigate and saw the aftermath of the battle there. He proceeded to kill the Legendary Stalker and took Romeo, who he recreated into a Puppet. He then created another Puppet and transferred Carlo's heart to it.

Story

Geppetto is found trapped in a carriage on Alchemist Bridge by the Mad Donkey. After Geppetto's puppet defeats the Mad Donkey, Geppetto warmly greets it and upgrades its Pulse Cell before telling it to defeat Scrapped Watchman in order to open up the path to Venigni Works.

Endings

• If Geppetto's puppet surrenders its heart, Geppetto will take it and use it along with the Arm of God to resurrect Carlo. They return to Hotel Krat, where Geppetto has Carlo massacre the survivors. Geppetto replaces them with Puppet versions to serve Carlo before he departs to help stabilize and rebuild Krat. He leaves a letter behind for Carlo.
• If Geppetto's puppet refuses to surrender its heart, Geppetto will open up a box containing the Nameless Puppet and has it take the heart by force. In the ensuing fight the Nameless Puppet nearly destroys Geppetto's puppet's heart but Geppetto jumps in to take the blow instead. He angrily asks the Nameless Puppet if it was really going to destroy the heart. Geppetto's puppet takes advantage of this distraction to destroy the Nameless Puppet. If Geppetto's puppet has low humanity, Geppetto will curse it as a useless puppet as he succumbs to his injury. If Geppetto's puppet has high humanity it will begin to cry for Geppetto, causing him to apologize to it before he dies.

Trivia

• Geppetto is based off the character of the same name in The Adventures of Pinocchio, where he is Pinocchio's creator and father.
• In the novel he is only referred to as Geppetto, Giuseppe comes from the Italian variant of Joseph with Geppetto being a diminutive form of that name.
